I actually watched this about a week ago and sent it back to Netflix. But my internet (love you SO MUCH DTN Speednet! Wish DSL or any other form of high-speed was available in my area! But I digress…) decided it should stop working for about a week.
I thought it was pretty cute. It went both exactly how I thought it would and not at all if that makes sense. It of course has a cute, happy ending – it IS a Ryan Reynolds romantic comedy after all. But I expected that while he was telling his daughter the story of the women he’s loved, allowing her to try to guess which one was her mother, whom he’s on the brink of divorce with, he’d realize he still loved her and they’d patch things up.
That doesn’t happen. And I’m glad because it’d be very…80’s. That crap doesn’t really happen. He kinda sorta ends up with the girl he kept missing. She loved him when he was with someone else, he loved her when she was. They wouldn’t talk for years at a time. We don’t get an official “they’re together” but are left with the understanding that they’re going to get to know each other again. And it helped she was played by Isla “Ms. Borat” Fisher who I’ve loved since I saw her in “Confessions of a Shopaholic”. She’s just so cute and quirky.
The other options were played by Rachel Weiss who for some reason I’ve never really cared for. I can’t figure out why. She seems like a perfectly nice person. And Elizabeth Banks who I’ve only seen as the evil-ish step-mother to be in the movie “The Uninvited”.
And both women – the character’s they’re playing – are kinda horrid at times. So it’s kinda hard to root for either of them. I was surprised one of them was in fact the mother. I got a laugh when the daughter commented that if she was the child of Summer (Rachel Weiss’ character) she’d run away to Canada, the character is that horrid.
So, yeah, cute watch. I’ll never buy it but I enjoyed it for what it was. The timeline thing kinda bugged but luckily for the writters I’m not good with math so they could be flexible with the years.

I thought about seeing this movie when it came out to rent. Might have to see if I can find it online somewhere. I’d rent it from Netflix since my aunt has an account there, but every time I put something on the list she bumps it down and puts hers at the top. T_T
And that lil girl, I swear I see her everywhere! She’s a good crier .. lol
It’s definitely worth a watch. I was entertained. If you guys have a broadband internet connection, I bet it’s on the instant watch movies by now. My internet’s to slow for it.
I hope it is! I’ve watched a few movies that way, though most of the ones I -want- to watch don’t have the option, haha. Lame for them. I will have to check it out!
