I haven’t been updating my sites much because that last 2 weekends have been spent fighting viruses off my computer I’m pretty sure, but have no proof of, family members got onto it.

Last weekend it was a virus apparently called the “Security Suite 2009″ virus which downloads a program that looks like a security suite that pops up, informs you you’re infected, and repeatedly “scans”. It stops you for the most part from getting online and at least on my machine, wouldn’t allow me to run any programs, including the task manager to shut it down, until I had manually found and deleted it’s prefetch. Then I could delete it with a combo of my virus scan, Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, and manual deleting of objects.

This week I noticed I had what’s being labled as the “Google Redirect Virus” which apparently not many people understand because it took me HOURS of web searching before I found a combo to get rid of it. And it was a hassle. This gem, at least for me, hijacked all search engine results – not just Google’s – so when I would click on a link it would redirect to a different site. Usually travel crap on Firefox and Airsoft guns on Opera for some reason. The problem with this, if you search forums some dumb asses were claiming it wasn’t real and offering crappy advice that I had already tried.

For this one, my anti-virus/spyware scan wasn’t catching it. Neither did SUPER Anti-Spyware which I downloaded after, though it caught some mine hadn’t. Anti Malwarebytes caught some stuff but not the whole thing. I FINALLY found a listing last night for a spyware cleaner that is suggested as a LAST RESORT because it’s super strong and sometimes deletes things it shouldn’t called ComboFix. After running that things seem to be back in order.

Meanwhile, I’ve password blocked my computer, already had my laptop blocked, and the family has possession of my older laptop because they kept fucking it up and I got sick of dealing so I bought my new one and let them have it. That way if anything else is on here, I know it came from me.
